#20. Big time Talking Heads tribute (funk yeah). Somehow they are one of those bands that seems to never get talked about or recognized for their contributions to music… and they are immense contributions. I can easily recall three Talking Heads-related moments that changed my life forever:

1) Hearing “Crosseyed & Painless” for the first time as an 18 year-old college student, no doubt baked AF, who had never listened to any kind of funk music, art rock, etc… My brain went into full fractal mode and stayed like that for the rest of time. Still completely fried right now. And to this day, shoot me dead if I’m wrong, nothing sounds like this song or album unless it’s being copied. Of course Brian Eno produced it.

2) Hearing “My Life in the Bush of Ghosts” by Brian Eno & David Byrne for the first time. A random LP find at Looney Tunes in Boston (R.I.P.) that went and broke my brain again. As a music production student, it is impossible to comprehend how this was made in 1981… Literally decades ahead of its time. Fuckin’ Eno again, who else.

3) Seeing “Stop Making Sense” for the first time… By most accounts, the best live concert film ever. And the most iconic. I was at the weirdest party of all time, didn’t know anybody… And either I was going insane or the front door of this house was locked from the inside because none of my friends nor I could figure out how to leave. This was on repeat in the room next to the front door, and we ended up staying to watch it twice. Have watched it approximately 75 times since then.

Anyway, just felt the need to show some love to this incredibly important band… My 4th or 5th favorite of all-time. None of their “big hits” are really on this mix, but there is definitely something for everyone here — even hardcore Talking Heads fans will probably hear something new. And as with any of the tribute shows I’ve done, if you’ve ever had any curiosity for this artist, this is a good place to start.

P.S. I would also be remiss if I did not formally profess my undying, passionate love for 80s-era Tina Weymouth right here and now… Is she the sexiest ever? I watch her do the crab/horse-riding shuffle thing she does in Stop Making Sense and I think “She is 100% the sexiest woman alive”.

As I wrote last week, this will be the final show for now until Oct. 28th. Good time to catch up if you haven’t heard ’em all yet. Thank you to all the wonderful peeps who have supported so far… Makes it all worth it.
